THE LEATHER AND FOOTWEAR INSTITUTE (ICPI) is a division of NATIONAL RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE FOR TEXTILES AND LEATHER (INCDTP) located in Bucharest, having over 100 employees.

ICPI has an outstanding experience and comprises Research – Development laboratories in the fields of leather processing, footwear, and rubber goods, and is coordinated by the Ministry of Education, Research and Youth of Romania, as it is a National Institute.

We keep constant contact with the industry (public and private companies).

The research activity for the Leather-Footwear-Rubber goods sectors is destined to a complex field, determined not only by the large number of basic technologies applied, that differ totally from one section to another, but also by the great diversity of raw materials used and semi-products and finished products made.

The technological research and development thematic is remarkably complex, comprising the following fields: leather - fur, footwear, rubber consumer goods and technologic accessories, individual protection equipment, quality analyses and specific tests, biotechnologies and environmental protection, computer-assisted design, as well as other related activities – scientific assistance, technical assistance, dissemination of information, databases etc.
